Lebanon Valley 80, Albright 75
READING, Pa. -
Joe Meehan's 29 points helped Lebanon Valley hold off a late Albright rally and come away with a key road win, 80-75, in Commonwealth Conference play on Saturday.
The Dutchmen (10-7, 3-3 CC) had big games from Meehan,
Danny Brooks, and
Jordan Stewart as the Lions (11-6, 1-5 CC) nearly erased a 19-point lead over the final 5:35 of the game, pulling as close as four points in the final minute.
Brooks (24 points, six rebounds) hit a key layup with 28 seconds left to halt a 7-0 Albright run and prevent them from making it a one-basket game.
Meehan moved into eighth on LVC's all-time scoring list, moving ahead of current assistant coach Scott Mailen '81 on the chart with 1,488 points.
Stewart turned in his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 boards. LVC shot 48 percent while holding Albright to 35 percent overall and 4-for-21 (19 percent) from beyond the arc. Kyle Jordan led the Lions with 18 points and 10 boards, and Derek Hall added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
LVC led wire-to-wire, scoring the game's first nine points on the way to a 41-27 halftime lead. The Dutchmen appeared to be on the way to an easy win up 69-50 after a Meehan layup with 5:35 left, but a Hall and-one followed by Dave Singleton's three-pointer sparked a quick 13-2 run that helped Albright close the gap.
The Lions got as close as 77-73 when Pedro Perez converted a three-point play with 32 seconds left, but
Matt O'Brien hit Brooks at the other end for a bucket, and a Sam Diaz foul shot with 14 seconds left gave LVC a seven-point lead that would be enough for the win.
The Dutchmen host Widener Wednesday night to cap the first half of the Commonwealth Conference schedule.
