ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley started off its Commonwealth Conference schedule with a win Sunday, besting Lycoming 7-2.
The Dutchmen (6-5, 1-0 CC) went up 2-1 at doubles and cruised to five of the six singles wins to pick up the home victory.
Shayna Heintzelman beat Megan Gardner at No. 1, 6-4, 6-0, and
Lauren Fulmer dealt Sayuma Akashi a 6-1, 6-0 defeat at No. 2 to lead the Dutchmen. Other winners for LVC were
Christie Graf at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0 over Rebecca Reynolds;
Tam Lobb at No. 4, 7-5, 6-0 over Kathy Jacobs; and
Danielle Bordner over Adriana Rivera, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.
LVC picked up doubles wins at Nos. 1 and 2, with Heintzelman and Graf winning 8-5 against Gardner and Reynolds, and Fulmer and Lobb beating Akashi and Linda Fogg 8-4.
Lycoming's two points came in closely contested matches at No. 3 doubles as Jacobs and Rivera beat Jess Ferlenda and Bordner 9-8 (7-5) and at No. 5 singles as Ellen Phillips beat
Alyssa Kulp 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-8.
LVC will head to Messiah on Tuesday.
