ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley secured the #2 seed in next week's Commonwealth Conference championship tournament with an 8-1 win over Alvernia on Thursday. With a win at No. 1,
Shayna Heintzelman tied the LVC program record for career doubles wins with her 47th.
The Dutchmen close their regular season at 11-6 and 5-1 in CC play, and they will host Messiah, Alvernia, or Lycoming on Wednesday at a time to be announced in the semifinals.
LVC had little trouble in their final conference match, which was moved to Annville-Cleona High School to ensure it would be completed during daylight with the LVC men's team also playing Alvernia on campus. After going up 3-0 at singles, a strong showing by the middle of the line-up clinched the win.
Heintzelman tied the LVC all-time record for doubles win, teaming with
Christie Graf at No. 1 to beat Jenny McKee and Kayla Morgan 8-2. The senior won for the 47th time in doubles play (47-20 overall), tying former teammate Charissa Nordall '08 for the record.
Heintzelman led LVC at No. 1 singles, as well, beating Jenny McKee 6-2, 7-6 (5), and Graf cruised 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 for her ninth in a row.
Tam Lobb beat Jennifer Innamorato 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4,
Morgan Brady beat Laura Ehnes 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5, and
Danielle Bordner rallied back to beat Brittany Veith 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 at No. 6.
Alvernia's lone point came at No. 2 as
Lauren Fulmer retired, with Lil Snyder leading 6-3, 3-1 at the time.
