Lebanon Valley 75, Arcadia 44
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley and Arcadia were at complete opposite ends of the spectrum coming into Saturday afternoon's matchup. The Dutchmen led the Commonwealth Conference with both a first-place ranking and a league-leading scoring margin. Arcadia was winless and losing games by an average of 26 points.
The Dutchmen (6-0, 2-0 CC) took full advantage in a 75-44 romp over the Knights (0-5, 0-1) in their second conference game of the season.
Twelve players saw floor time for LVC and each contributed points to the total. Junior forward
Liz Borgia and freshman guard
Kiely Chaklos shared the team lead with 10 points each.
The team got off to a hot start with a 13-0 run. Six different women scored for the Dutchmen, including a three-pointer from junior guard
Tierney Hiltz. They further established dominance with an 11-0 run that stretched a 25-12 lead to 36-12 later in the half. Again, the run took five separate contributors and included a trey from Hiltz.
By halftime, the Dutchmen led 42-18 with their largest lead of the half at 24 points.
The second half was far more balanced, as the Knights improved in shooting from 18.5 percent in the first half to 32 percent in the second, led by their top scorers Jenna Crothers and Christine Taylor. Crothers led with 14 total points, while Taylor finished right behind with 13.
LVC stayed steady throughout, shooting 41 percent in the first half and 39 percent in the second.
Despite the success of its starters over the first five games this season, head coach Todd Goclowski played his bench throughout Saturday's game to strong results. The bench scored 34 points—nearly half of the 75 total points scored.
Sophomore guard
Gabrielle Vass was a highlighted contributor, scoring a career-high eight points. Junior center
Renee Fritz matched her at eight, while guards
Caitlin Murphy and
Caitlin Bach each scored seven.
Hiltz entered the game as the only LVC player to have scored from beyond the three-point arc. She made two more Saturday but was finally joined by Murphy, who sank her only outside shot of the day.
Junior guard
Amanda Donia was a clear asset on defense and led the team with nine rebounds and three steals. The Dutchmen also got eight boards from Bach and seven from Borgia.
LVC plays at Misericordia and Brooklyn College this week before hosting St. Mary's Dec. 20 at 2 p.m.
