ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley split its home opener Friday night, donning pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month as they took on Arcadia at the Arnold Sports Center.
The women won their part of the meet 116-89, while Arcadia won the men's portion 96-55. Both teams wore pink caps as they raised money for Susan G. Komen For the Cure.
Just a few days after smashing the program 100-yard butterfly record, freshman
Jan Ikeda set a new standard in the 100-meter fly, winning in 1:04.69 to take more than seven seconds off the old record of 1:11.88. Her time was just 0.2 seconds off the NCAA meter "B" cut, as well. She followed that up with a 4:48.94 event win in the 400 free, besting the old program mark of 4:59.11 by teammate
Alicia Hain.
Hain reset her school record in the 200-meter freestyle, finishing second in a tight finish at 2:19.88 to shave more than a second off her 2:20.94 set last season.
The women's 200 medley relay of Hain,
Julia Mongeau, Ikeda, and
Mary Gardner won in 2:10.05, taking more than three seconds off the old program record of 2:13.70 from 2005.
Mongeau won the 200 IM in 2:39.24 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.06.
For the men,
Matt Dwyer won a pair of events, taking the 100-backstroke in 1:08.94 and the 200 IM in exhibition, finishing in 2:39.81.
The men's team had a number of second-place finishes, including
Ryan Humphries in the 800 free (11:25.23) and 100 fly (1:18.07), and
Erik Brandt in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.66). The 200 medley relay of Dwyer, Brandt, Humphries, and
Shane Miller was second in 2:06.60, and the 200 free relay of Miller, Dwyer,
Collin Straka, and Brandt was second in 1:53.07.
LVC visits Hood on Nov. 5.
