ANNVILLE, Pa. - #25/23 Lebanon Valley won its second conference game in 24 hours Saturday, leading wire-to-wire as it took care of Albright, 70-51.
The Dutchmen (21-2, 11-1 CC) can finish no worse than second in the Commonwealth Conference with the win, and will host a home playoff semifinal Feb. 24 as a result. LVC can clinch the regular-season title - for only the second time in program history - with a win Tuesday in the annual PinkZone game against Elizabethtown.
LVC was playing just a day removed from beating #9/10 Messiah Friday night after several weather delays in the past week, and had to take care of business against a tough Albright team. The Dutchmen have two games left - hosting E-town Tuesday and at Alvernia next Saturday - in the regular season.
Andrea Hoover poured in 21 points, seven rebounds, and five steals and
Eryn Schultz had 18 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Lebanon Valley.
Caitlin Murphy had five assists, and
Suzie Noyes finished with nine points, five boards, and four blocks in just 20 minutes after running into first-half foul trouble.
Jessica McGinness had 16 for Albright, and MaryLynn McMonagle added 12 off the bench.
Both teams suffered a dismal first half, with LVC shooting 26.5 percent and Albright just 17.9 percent from the floor. The Lions went 0-for-10 before sinking their first bucket 8:36 into the game, but by then LVC had built a 12-3 lead that ballooned to 29-16 at the half.
Shooting was much improved in the second half as both teams topped 44 percent, but Albright never got back in the game after an 8-0 run to start the second half was quickly answered with a Schultz three, and LVC did not lead by fewer than 10 after that.
