ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Lebanon Valley volleyball defeated Elizabethtown 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-16) Saturday afternoon for its third straight Commonwealth Conference title. The team is the first in LVC history to win three straight conference championships.
With the win, LVC (23-9) earned its third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, and will learn their opponent and competition site on Monday morning at 11 a.m. during the live selection show on NCAA.com.
Earlier in the season the Blue Jays posted a 3-1 win over the Dutchmen to claim the #1 seed in the conference tournament. The two teams have met five of the last six seasons in the Commonwealth Conference championship, including the title match the last four years.
Tournament MVP
Angela Kuperavage led the defensive effort with 17 digs, and
Emily Perkins added 10 along with her 42 assists.
Joelle Snyder was a force up front, totaling 15 kills on 25 attempts without an error for a .600 hitting percentage.
Emily Hopkins added 13 kills and
Michelle Little posted a second-best .345 hitting percentage and 10 kills.
LVC registered five service aces in the match and four total blocks. Snyder and
Jamie Hawk had a solo block each, while
Jess Raber and Snyder each notched two block assists.
Lindsay Palm led the way for Elizabethtown, totaling a .333 hitting percentage and 12 kills. Crystal Agnew had a team-high 33 assists and Andrea Weaver posted 20 digs.
The Dutchmen went up 20-11 in the first set before Elizabethtown rolled off seven straight points led by its blocking effort. The teams stayed close after and tied the score at 23 aside before LVC secured a 26-24 win.
Lebanon Valley ran off with the second set, leading to a 17-5 advantage.
Jamie Hawk had a great serving rotation in the middle of the match, leading to seven straight points for LVC. After a timeout, Elizabethtown claimed two points but was limited from then on. The Dutchmen registered eight of the next 14 points for a 25-13 victory.
With elimination on the horizon, Elizabethtown came out fighting in the third frame. The teams battled back and forth early in the set, but after an 11-11 tie the Dutchmen never looked back. LVC notched 11 kills over the next 19 points for the win. Recording five straight kills to end the set,
Michelle Little totaled two, while
Joelle Snyder registered three kills.
