ANNVILLE, Pa. - Freshmen
Alicia Hain and
Julia Mongeau combined to set three individual school records - including Mongeau breaking the 17 year-old 200 IM mark - as Lebanon Valley swam against DeSales on Saturday.
Mongeau won the 200 IM in 2:39.90 to best Gina Fontana's time of 2:40.30 set in 1993, breaking the oldest meter record still on the women's books. She followed that with a 2:58.04 record in the 200 breaststroke, breaking
Lisa Niethamer's mark of 2:58.26 set last season.
Hain broke teammate
Kristen Zartman's 400 free mark, taking nearly two seconds off it with a 5:02.94 finish.
LVC won both team scores, with the men winning 180-31 and the women 186-50 against DeSales' club program. The Dutchmen swept wins in all but one individual and relay event.
With the Dutchmen swimming a distance program for the first time this year, they turned in 17 new MAC-qualifying performances, but also got some in the shorter events. In the 50 free,
Matt Dwyer (26.59),
Tony Shipkowski (26.86),
Devon Stutzman (27.08), and Nate Heinly (26.90) qualified for the men, while
Kelsey Sherman (30.15) got in under the women's standard.
Jeffrey Bush qualified in both the 200 backstroke (2:43.50) and 200 IM (2:32.44), while
John Denniston added the 200 fly (2:44.44) to his resume.
Erik Brandt made it in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.60), and
John Heenan qualified in the 200 breaststroke (2:50.90). Shipkowski also made in the 100 fly (1:09.64), and
Brett Wimmer qualified for the 200 back (2:38.95).
For the women, both of Mongeau's record-setting times met MAC standards, and Hain qualified in the 200 fly (2:51.41), while
Krysteena Koller (3:12.66) did it in the 200 breaststroke.
Kelsey Sherman made it in the 50 free (30.15), and Zartman added the 800 free (10:34.25) and 200 back (2:48.82).
LVC will swim against King's at home on Friday.
