Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Tournament most valuable player
Joe Meehan poured in 20 points to lead Lebanon Valley College to its first Rinso Marquette Tournament title since 2004-05, beating Delaware Valley College 78-73.
The Dutchmen (2-1) had to fend off a huge comeback bid by the Aggies (1-2), who had trailed by 18 with 13 minutes left but came back to cut the lead to one seven minutes later.
Meehan scored 20 to go with his 26-point first-round performance, and he also handed out five assists. All-tournament selection
Anthony Trautman added 17 points, and freshman
Joey Giangiobbe had a breakout game off the bench with 15 points and seven boards.
Jeremy Beckett led Del Val with 23, and Jason Goldheimer scored 20, including five three-pointers.
The title was LVC's first at its home tournament since they beat New Jersey City in overtime in 2004-05; it is LVC's 10th title in 19 tournaments.
LVC had built a comfortable second-half lead, but Del Val roared back with a 15-1 run midway through the half to cut the lead to single digits, and a Beckett layup made it 65-64 LVC with 6:56 to go.
Lebanon Valley's offense woke back up with a Trautman three, and two free throws and a pair of layups by Meehan re-established a six point lead with just over a minute to play. The Dutchmen held Del Val without a field goal until Goldheimer's layup with 15 seconds left, but by then it was too late as Trautman made a game-icing free throw to finish off the tournament championship.
LVC shot 44.8% from the floor, but went just 9-of-26 (34.6%) in the second half after a red-hot 17-of-32 (53.1%) clip in the first half. LVC held a 42-37 rebounding advantage.
In the consolation game, Richard Stockton used a double-double from Nnamdi Usuwa to post a 68-57 win over Penn State Harrisburg. Usuwa finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while DiAndre Brown added 13 points for the Ospreys.
