Joe Meehan tied a career-high with 26 points and
Jordan Stewart recorded a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead Lebanon Valley to a 95-73 win over Penn State Harrisburg in the Rinso Marquette Tournament opener Friday night.
The Dutchmen (1-1) will play Delaware Valley Saturday at 3 p.m. for the tournament title. Del Val was a 54-51 winner over Richard Stockton in the night's early game; Stockton will play Penn State Harrisburg in the 1 p.m. consolation.
LVC advances to the final for the third straight year, but is trying to win their first Marquette tournament since 2004-05. Lebanon Valley's 95 points is their most in the tournament since dropping 98 on Curry on 1998-99.
Lebanon Valley shot exceptionally well, going 30-of-51 (58.8%) from the floor and 8-of-14 (57.1%) for three. LVC shot 27-for-38 at the line; the teams combined for 50 fouls and 65 free throw attempts.
Meehan equaled his career-high with 26 points, and added eight assists as he took over the game in the first half. LVC's guards cleaned up the glass, with Stewart grabbing 10 rebounds,
Anthony Trautman 7 (to go with 15 points), and
Sean MacIntosh 7. LVC led 52-22 on rebounds overall.
Penn State Harrisburg had just four turnovers - including none in the second half - to keep them in the game, but a 16-5 LVC run midway through the second turned a close game into a blowout. The Dutchmen had red-hot shooting until the end of the game, canning more than two-thirds of their shots up to the 10:00 mark of the second.
In the early game, Delaware Valley got 16 points from James Jones and 14 from Chris Ellis to hold off Richard Stockton, 54-51. The Aggies, making their fourth Rinso Marquette Tournament appearance, will get their first stab at the championship game.
