ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley was firing on all cylinders as it cruised past Scranton and Gallaudet by 3-0 scorelines Saturday to go 2-0 in their tri-match.
LVC beat Scranton 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-16) in the morning opener before topping a tired Gallaudet team 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-13) in the final match. In between, Gallaudet battled Scranton to win in five, 3-2 (25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 24-26, 15-10).
Playing on Senior Day,
Joelle Snyder had an outstanding two matches, first going for 10 kills (.562) and five aces against Scranton before recording a double-double of 13 kills (.344) and 10 digs to go with two aces against Gallaudet. LVC honored Snyder,
Michelle Little,
Jess Raber,
Emily Hopkins, and
Emily Perkins before their second match.
In the day's first match, LVC cruised in three sets past Scranton behind a strong .321 team hitting percentage and a good serving game, racking up nine aces.
Joelle Snyder led LVC with 10 kills and five aces - including three in a row to end the match - as she hit .562.
Jamie Hawk threw down six kills to hit .5000,
Emily Hopkins had seven kills (.400), and
Michelle Little added seven kills (.333).
Emily Perkins had 28 assists and five digs;
Angela Kuperavage and
Jess Finlayson paced the defense with 16 and 9 digs, respectively.
LVC eased to a 25-13 first-set win behind a big 10-0 serving run by Snyder, then had no trouble in the second as they ended the set on a 10-1 run to win 25-9.
Scranton came alive in the third, taking a 12-8 lead on Katie Newman's serving run, but LVC answered back to retake the lead at 16-15, then closed out the match with eight straight points on Snyder's serve.
In the second match, LVC had no trouble with Gallaudet as they were led by solid serving and defensive play. Snyder ended up with a match-high 13 kills and also had 10 digs, and Hopkins added seven. Kuperavage had 17 digs, while Finlayson got under 12. Perkins put up 30 assists and had three aces to go with eight digs.
LVC never trailed as they dominated the first set, but the Dutchmen had to come back in the second after finding themselves down 5-1 to start. After it was 9-9, though, LVC went on a tear, finishing the set on a 16-3 run.
The third set was similar, starting off back-and-forth with a tie at 7-7 before LVC built their lead, keyed by five straight points on
Michelle Little's serve midway through the match.
