HERSHEY, Pa. - Lebanon Valley won its home opener at Hersheypark Arena Saturday, beating SUNY Cortland 9-2 behind strong special teams play.
The Dutchmen (2-0) scored three times on the power play and had two short-handed goals, led by hat tricks from
Nick Schultz and
Shane Golden. Schultz tacked on four assists for a seven-point afternoon.
Cortland actually scored first just 34 seconds into the game, but the Dutchmen scored seven unanswered over the first two periods to take a commanding lead.
Schultz, Golden, and
Brad Surdam all scored in the first period, and LVC ran away with it in the second as
Shaun Stamm scored early before Schultz added his second and Golden scored twice on the power play.
Matt Conroy had a goal in the third, and Schultz finished his hat trick with a short-handed score.
Rich Drazin made 24 saves to pick up the win, his second of the season. Cortland's Nate Mellow stopped 15 in 28:30, and Jason Sartorius played the balance, stopping 27. LVC took 51 shots to Cortland's 26.
LVC will host Towson at Hersheypark Arena Friday at 7 p.m.
