ANNVILLE, Pa. – LVC volleyball claimed a spot in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-9, 25-15) win over Messiah Wednesday evening at LVC Gymnasium. The Dutchmen will make their eighth-straight appearance in the conference playoffs, and look for their third-straight Commonwealth title this season.
Leading the attack were seniors
Emily Hopkins (14 kills, .323 hitting percentage) and
Joelle Snyder (11 kills, .440 hitting percentage). Junior
Jamie Hawk and senior
Michelle Little added six kills each, while freshman
Megan Schoch tallied five.
Senior
Emily Perkins took care of the setting duties, notching 36 assists against the Falcons.
Junior
Angela Kuperavage maintained the defense, posting 13 digs, while freshman
Jess Finlayson added 11 digs. Hawk and Perkins both added eight digs in the match.
Lebanon Valley claimed seven total blocks with Hopkins and Schoch recording a solo block each.
Both team stayed close in the first set with LVC narrowly escaping with the win. Snyder served seven straight points early in the match to push the Dutchmen's lead to 9-3.
LVC ran away with the second set, led by Hawk's eight straight points in the middle of the set for an 18-6 advantage. Five kills in the final nine plays, including two from Snyder, gave the Dutchmen the two set lead.
In the final set, LVC proved too much for Messiah, claiming the straight set victory. Kuperavage served for five straight points and Perkins set up the final six points for the 25-15 win.
The Dutchmen travel to Boston, Mass., this weekend for the MIT Quad. LVC faces UMass Boston on Friday at 7 p.m., before taking on Bates at 11 a.m. Saturday. Wrapping up play at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the Dutchmen play the host Engineers.
