Defense Carries WBB For Goclowski's 100th Win

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa
. - A late defensive stand held Widener without a field goal for a six-minute span in the closing minutes as Lebanon Valley came from behind to beat the Pride, 70-59, for coach Todd Goclowski's 100th career win.

The Dutchmen (13-1, 5-0 CC) avenged their loss to the Pride (7-9, 3-2 CC) in last year's Commonwealth Conference championship game, and the win sets up a tilt for first place against Messiah on Wednesday night in Annville.

Eryn Schultz poured in 19 points, including four three-pointers, and Suzie Noyes had 11 points and nine rebounds, but it was LVC's second-half defense that was the story as they held Widener to 8-for-29 shooting in the second half and generated 22 turnovers overall, 14 in the second half.

Andrea Hoover grabbed nine boards to go with four assists before fouling out near the end, and Tierney Hiltz, making her first career start, grabbed four steals despite playing just 19 minute with first-half foul trouble. Liz Borgia added 10 points off the bench.

Casey Pritz had a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double to lead Widener, but LVC limited leading scorer Lil Carney to just eight points.

Goclowski is the second LVC coach to reach 100 wins, joining predecessor Peg Kauffman, who was 190-135 in 12 seasons. Goclowski is 61-33 at LVC in his fourth season; he also carries a 39-13 record from two years at Curry.

Much like Wednesday night's big comeback at Elizabethtown, the Dutchmen fell into early trouble thanks to poor shooting, and Widener eventually built a 10-point lead just before halftime.

The Dutchmen stormed back to tie the game early in the second half, hitting an 8-0 run before taking the lead on Lindsey Nies' three-ball with 11:20 left. The lead swapped hands five times before back-to-back jumpers by Noyes and Hoover made it a 51-45 lead with 6:59 left.

Widener cut the lead to three with Alex Held's trey with 6:39 remaining, but it would be the Pride's final field goal until Carney made a consolation layup with 53 seconds remaining. In that span, LVC outscored Widener 18-7, with all of the visitors' points coming at the line.
