ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley kept its undefeated start going, topping Alvernia, 7-2, in a battle of unbeaten Commonwealth Conference teams.
The Dutchmen (6-0, 3-0 CC) remained perfect as they seek to defend their 2008-09 conference crown. The Crusaders (7-1, 2-1 CC) lost for the first time this year.
LVC led 2-1 after doubles, jump-started by a comeback 9-7 win at No. 2 by
Tamera Lobb and
Lauren Fulmer over Lauren Ertel and Lillian Snyder.
Sarah Grodzinski and
Shayna Heintzelman teamed for LVC's other doubles point with an 8-4 victory over Jenny McKee and Kayla Morgan at No. 1, while Laura Ehnes and Brittany Veith beat
Jess Ferlenda and
Morgan Brady, 8-6, at No. 3.
In singles play, Grodzinski eased past McKee, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1, while Heintzelman, the defending CC player of the week, won easily at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2, over Ertel.
Snyder dealt Lobb LVC's only singles loss with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, and
Caitlin Bedford worked a tiebreak to defeat Morgan at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5. Fulmer blanked Karoline Miller at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0, and Brady topped Ehnes, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.
LVC is right back in action Thursday, visiting Goucher.
