ANNVILLE, Pa. - The LVC women's tennis team opened its season on the right foot, topping the University of Scranton, 6-3, on Sunday.
The Dutchmen (1-0) earned the first career win for new Head Coach
Joy Graeff after coming back from a 2-1 deficit following doubles. LVC had to endure four three-set singles matches, winning three of them.
LVC took five of the six singles flights, led by
Sarah Grodzinski's 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 over Deirdre Wylie and
Shayna Heintzelman's marathon 6-4, 4-6, 13-11 tie-break win at No. 2.
Caitlin Bedford beat Kelly Costello, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4, and
Lauren Fulmer won her LVC debut at No. 5 with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 three-setter against Caitlin Ehly.
Morgan Brady won at No. 6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 over Puneet Dhillon.
Moira McGinn earned Scranton's lone singles point with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win over
Tamera Lobb at No. 3.
LVC hits the road to visit Neumann on Thursday.
