Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Frostburg State scored six runs in the seventh inning to break open a close game and rout Lebanon Valley, 12-0, in the 2009 home opener at McGill Field.
The Dutchmen (4-7) lost for the second time in three days despite getting a solid effort from their starting pitcher as
Nick Faria went six and a third and struck out five, allowing four earned.
Meanwhile, the LVC offense was shut down by Frostburg starter Scott Eastment, who went seven full and allowed five hits and no runs. He combined with David O'Brien, who allowed one hit in two innings, for the shutout.
Things came undone for LVC in the seventh when Faria put Andrew Derr on to start the inning. Joe Clark layed down a sacrifice bunt to move him over, and Derr went to third on a wild pitch and then came home when catcher
Bert Malloy's throw sailed into left field.
Ian Younker relieved Faria at that point and got Pat Sapp to ground out, but the Bobcats proceeded to score five runs with two out. After loading the bases with a walk, Younker walked in a run, and
Dustin Deibert came in to pitch and also walked in a run on his first batter faced. A wild pitch scored Teon Richburg, and Mike Jester's single up the middle plated two runs to end the scoring.
Frostburg added another run in the eighth on Tim Sutcliffe's sac fly and two more in the ninth on an RBI double by Doug Anuszewski and a ground-out by Clark.
LVC only put four runners in scoring position all afternoon, and stranded eight.
The Dutchmen will host Lancaster Bible on Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
