ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley made a second-half comeback, then held off an Albright buzzer-beater attempt to win, 58-57, in a key Commonwealth Conference game on Wednesday.
The Dutchmen (13-6, 6-2 CC) put themselves in the driver's seat for the CC's #2 seed and a home playoff game with the win over the third-place Lions (12-8, 4-4 CC).
Albright had the final shot with a chance to win, but Bre Dillon's jumper in the paint hit the front-iron at the buzzer.
Lori Lidlow led LVC with 18 points, including a layup with 1:19 to go to put LVC up by three.
Andrea Hoover added 13 points, and
Megan Bish drained three three-pointers for her nine points.
Dillon led Albright with 19 points and six assists.
LVC had to overcome a slow start that saw them go 1-for-10 early on, including a nearly eight-minute field-goal drought after Bish's first three-pointer three minutes into the game. LVC shot 44.1 percent in the second half after a 31.8 percent effort in the first.
Albright led virtually the entire way until
Eryn Schultz' jumper with 6:10 to go tied the game, and the Dutchmen took the lead on Lidlow's free throws a minute later. A huge three from Bish extended the lead to five to cap a 7-0 swing for LVC.
The Lions, however, pulled back into it with their own five-point run, but Bish again played the hero as she drained a three with 1:59 on the clock to retake the lead.
Charlotte Ciccone answered with a quick layup, but Lidlow made one at the other end to go back up three. Dillon then sank a bucket to cut the LVC lead to a point with 49 seconds left.
Hoover went to the line in the bonus but missed her first shot, and Dillon's three-point bid went wide and was grabbed by
Suzie Noyes. After Ciccone fouled her, Noyes missed her first shot, giving Albright one final look. After a scramble and a Lion time-out with 2.8 seconds left, Dillion got a terrific look from eight feet out, but clanked her potential game-winner off the front iron as time expired.
LVC will visit #8 Messiah on Saturday.
