Women's Hoops To Host Albright In CC Semifinals Wednesday

If this year's Commonwealth Conference women's basketball playoffs seem familiar, it's not just you. It's the same teams, same match-ups, and many of the same faces - the only difference is, this time, the Dutchmen don't have to hit the road.

Lebanon Valley will host Albright Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a rematch of the 2008 CC semifinal that saw LVC pull off a convincing 74-60 win in Reading after getting swept by the Lions in the regular season.

This year, though, the shoe is on the other foot. The game is in Annville, and it was the Lions who were swept by the Dutchmen during the regular season.

On the Radio

The game will be heard live in the lower Susquehanna Valley on WMSS 91.1 FM. John Wilsbach and Brian Keyser will handle the action.?The game can also be heard online at www.wmssfm.com. Live stats of the game will be available on GoDutchmen.com.

The 2008-09 Playoffs
While #2 seed LVC entertains #3 Albright, it will be another 2008 rematch as #1 Messiah hosts #4 Widener. That game comes just four days after the Falcons handled the Pride, 71-47. That win actually gave LVC the #2 seed by virtue of a tiebreak over Albright; the two teams finished tied at 8-4 in the conference, but the Dutchmen held a 2-0 regular season record over the Lions.

LVC vs. Albright During the Regular Season
Lebanon Valley swept the season series, winning 64-58 in Reading before holding on for a heart-stopping 58-57 win at home. On the road, LVC was led by Lori Lidlow's 21 points and Suzie Noyes' 14, and scored 30 points off 21 Albright turnovers. At home, Albright was a basket away from victory, but Bre Dillon's 10-footer went short at the buzzer as LVC held on for the win. Lidlow again led LVC, this time with 18 points and the go-ahead layup with 1:19 left in the game.

Last Year
After being swept by Albright during the regular season, LVC walked out of the Bollman Center with a 74-60 semifinal win behind Andrea Hoover's career-high 21 points. The win put the Flying Dutchmen into to the Commonwealth Conference championship game for only the second time ever and first since 2001-02. Lori Lidlow added 14 points and Megan Bish scored 10 more as the Dutchmen went 24-of-31 at the line. LVC went on to push Messiah in the championship game, but lost 54-47.

Scouting Lebanon Valley
Lori Lidlow has led the Dutchmen all season long with 15.3 points per game, but down the stretch run it's been the production of Suzie Noyes, Eryn Schultz, and Andrea Hoover who had carried LVC. In the final two weeks of the season, Noyes, who missed the first half of the year due to injury, has averaged 14.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game. Schultz has been no less impressive, averaging 13.5 points and four three-pointers per game. Hoover has made it all happen, draining 12.3 ppg in that span while dishing out 5.8 assists per game. Two key team stats to watch are free throw percentage (LVC shot .724 to opponents' .681 at the line this year) and turnovers (LVC was +93 on turnovers in the regular season).

Scouting Albright
The Lions have been red-hot to finish the season, winning five in a row after losing to LVC on Feb. 4. They have been led down the stretch by senior guard Bre Dillon, who drained 29 points to help shock Messiah, 78-73, in overtime on Valentine's Day. Annie McMahon has also been outstanding, and she's coming off a 17-point, 15-rebound game against Lycoming on Saturday. Jessica McGinness is averaging 13.6 ppg this season as well. Albright has played outstanding defense this season, holding opponents to a .369 shooting percentage and outrebounding them by a healthy margin.

Milestone Watch

There are two milestones to watch for in the playoffs. Senior Megan Bish, with 981 points, is 19 away from becoming LVC's eighth 1,000-point scorer. Meanwhile, Eryn Schultz, with 60 three-pointers this year, is one away from tying the record of 61 set by Lora Zimmerman in 2000-01 (although Zimmerman set that mark in 23 games, and LVC will be playing its 25th).

Noting LVC in the CC Playoffs
LVC is making its eighth appearance in the MAC or Commonwealth Conference playoffs ... LVC has a 2-7 all-time playoff record ... This is LVC's first home playoff game since 2001-02, when they earned the #1 seed and hosted the semifinals and final ... LVC has never won the conference title, but has reached the final twice, in 2001-02 and 2007-08 ... Both finals losses came to Messiah ... Last year's meeting was the first postseason tilt between LVC and Albright.
