Widener Bounces Men's Basketball, 69-49

Box Score

CHESTER, Pa.
- Widener University led wire-to-wire as it rolled to a 69-49 win over Lebanon Valley College Tuesday night, eliminating the Dutchmen from playoff contention.

The Dutchmen (11-13, 4-8 CC) are now done with conference play and are mathematically out of playoff contention. Five players scored in double digits for the Pride (19-5, 9-2 CC), who will enter the playoffs as the Commonwealth Conference's top seed.

Jamarr Johnson, Matt Sosna, and Charles Jones each scored 12 points for Widener, and Bobby Edmunds and Chris McDevitt added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Dan Dunkelberger led all scorers with 13 points for LVC.

The Widener defense shut down LVC, hodling the Dutchmen to 35.8 percent shooting from the field while inducing 16 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Pride shot 46.6 percent, including 11-for-22 for three.

LVC never led as Widener raced out to a 16-3 lead and never let up. The Dutchmen pared the lead to five late in the first half after consecutive baskets by Dunkelberger and Dustin Kerns, but a 6-1 Widener run to end the half made it a 37-27 score at the break.

Things didn't get any better from there. The Pride, keyed by an 8-0 spurt early in the second that put them up 16, shot 52 percent in the second stanza, and won going away with their largest lead coming at the end of the game.

LVC will finish the season at home Saturday with a non-conference game with Wilkes at 3 p.m.
