Box Score
DALLAS, Pa. - Eryn Schultz was flawless for Lebanon Valley College in a 66-56 win at Misericordia, doing something that had never been done in the history of LVC women's basketball.
The junior was 8-for-8 from the field for 21 points. The standard for field goal% at LVC is a minimum of eight attempts, and Schultz' perfect night from the floor makes her the first player in LVC women's basketball history to be perfect with at least eight attempts. The previous best mark was Jan Ogurcak's 8-for-9 (.889) night at Delaware Valley Jan. 19, 1991. To put the record in perspective, Schultz was two months shy of her second birthday the last time a Dutchmen player had a night like she had against the Cougars.
Of Schultz' eight field goals, five were from three-point range. The most threes made in a game by an LVC player is six, and Schultz has now drained five on two occasions, having also done so at Rosemont Jan. 17, 2008.
Misericordia took an early 7-2 lead in the opening four minutes before Schultz closed the gap with two buckets. The Dutchmen would never trail again in the game, and the Cougars only managed one tie, at 11-11, with 9:14 to play in the first half. A three from Taryn McDaniel closed the game to 23-22 in favor of LVC with 2:09 to go in the half, but Liz Borgia came up with a layup for the Dutchmen to keep the advantage in LVC's favor. Another Borgia layup with 59 seconds to play gave LVC a 27-22 lead, and the Dutchmen carried a 29-24 lead into the break.
In the second half, after Misericordia made two free throws to climb back within three at 29-26, LVC went on a 13-3 run to open a 42-29 lead. The Dutchmen couldn't put the Cougars away, and the lead was only six with 10 minutes to play. LVC rattled off seven points in a row - including five from Schultz - to regain a large lead, 53-40. Courtney Sykes came back for Misericordia with a pair of treys, helping bring the Cougars within four, 56-52, with 4:11 to play. That was Misericordia's final push, as LVC scored 10 of the game's final 14 points - including 4-of-5 free throw attempts to ice the game.
Suzie Noyes had 13 points for the Dutchmen and Andrea Hoover contributed 10 points and eight assists. Borgia was 4-for-5 in the game for eight points, adding a team-high seven rebounds. For the Cougars, Marks put up a double-double, with 17 points and 13 boards. Jesse Robinson had 15 for Misericordia and McDaniel added 12.
LVC's depth was a key in the win, as the Dutchmen had 16 bench points to Misericordia's four. Lebanon Valley capitalized on turnovers, scoring 32 points off 31 Cougar miscues.
The Dutchmen are back on the court Nov. 20 against Clarkson in the first round of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at LVC at 6 p.m. Delaware Valley plays Neumann at 8 p.m. in the other matchup.
