Volleyball Wins Third Tournament of Season

LANCASTER, Pa. - For Lebanon Valley College, when a tournament championship is on the line in 2009, the intensity ratchets up and the focus becomes more intense. With a pair of wins on Saturday, the Dutchmen claimed their third in-season tournament crown of 2009. LVC defeated Cabrini, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-21), and followed that up with a comeback win over Stevenson, 3-2 (25-12, 20-25,11-25, 25-13, 15-9).

With the wins, LVC is now 18-1 this year.

In the morning match, LVC defeated Cabrini thanks to a total team effort on both sides of the ball. Angela Kuperavage had a very good match, serving up four aces while finishing with 12 digs. Rachael Hoffman and Stephanie Derk also added three aces for LVC.

Joelle Snyder led the attack with 11 kills. Michelle Little added 10 while Emily Hopkins finished with nine kills.

Little and Snyder each assisted on two blocks for the Dutchmen. Little also led LVC with 15 digs.

Emily Perkins was busy on both the receiving and passing components of the game, ending the match with 33 assists and seven digs.

In the finale against Stevenson, LVC had to rally from a 2-1 deficit. After winning the first set convincingly, the Dutchmen dropped the next two, including the third set, 25-11. It appeared as if Stevenson had all the momentum, but the Dutchmen regained composure and stormed through the final two sets for the win.

"Stevenson was very inspired to come out and beat us," head coach Wayne Perry said. "We had to come back and play our game to defeat them."

Again, LVC was strong on the serve. Jess Raber and Emily Perkins each finished with three aces while Kuperavage had two.

Perkins also added 26 assists and Aly Stengel added 10.

Snyder led the way with 15 kills. Little hammered home 10 and Raber sent in eight kills.

Kuperavage (15), Raber (14) and Perkins (10) all had double-digits in digs.

Joelle Snyder was named MVP of the tournament. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Emily Perkins.
