WASHINGTON, D.C. - After stumbling on Thursday at Susquehanna, the Lebanon Valley College volleyball team found its winning way again on Saturday, picking up a pair of 3-0 sweeps in a tri-match in the nation's capitol.
LVC opened the day with a 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-17) win over host Gallaudet. This was the first time in head coach Wayne Perry's career that LVC defeated Gallaudet on its home court.
Emily Hopkins carried the Dutchmen on offense, finishing with 15 kills on 27 attempts with only one error. She was joined on the attack by Michelle Little (8 kills), Joelle Snyder (6), and Jess Raber and Jamie Hawk (5 each.)
Emily Perkins was an equal opportunity distributor of the ball at the net, handing out 37 assists.
Four different players reached double digits in digs for the Dutchmen. Perkins had 16 for the high mark. She was joined by Angela Kuperavage (13), Raber (11) and Hannah Free (10.)
The Dutchmen served up five aces, with Snyder and Kuperavage each finishing with two.
Hawk was busy on defense at the net, assisting on four blocks. Raber was in on three stops and the duo of Snyder and Hopkins each had two block assists.
In the second match, LVC downed Scranton, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 27-25) for its 26th win of the season.
Two near-flawless performances from the big hitters paved the way for the win. Snyder had a team-high 12 kills on 23 attempts with only one error. Hawk was right behind with 11 kills on 23 attempts and just one error. Nicole Barra joined in with nine kills while Paige Yocum sent in seven kills.
Kuperavage had 20 digs to steady the defense, helped out by Perkins' nine digs.
The Dutchmen return to LVC Gym on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. to take on Elizabethtown in the Commonwealth Conference finale for both teams. It is winner take all, as the Blue Jays sit atop the conference at the moment, with LVC right behind. The winner of this match will have home-court in the conference playoffs.
