ANNVILLE, Pa. - Elizabethtown dealt Lebanon Valley its first loss of the season, halting LVC's 12-match win streak with a 5-4 Commonwealth Conference victory on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays (5-0, 5-0 CC) clinched the #1 seed in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs with the win, while the Dutchmen(12-1, 5-1 CC) will have to settle for the #2 seed.
LVC quickly fell into a hole after the Blue Jays went up 2-1 in doubles, and three quick singles wins polished off the result.
The Dutchmen never kept fighting though, and
Sarah Grodzinski,
Shayna Heintzelman, and
Lauren Fulmer gutted out wins to bring the score to 5-4.
Grodzinski and Fulmer both improved to 13-0 this season with their wins; Grodzinski beat Emily Swarr at No. 1, 6-2, 6-4, and Fulmer worked a tiebreak to beat Madison Pipkin, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. At No. 2,
Shayna Heintzelman came back from a set down on Jess Russell to win, 1-6, 6-0, 10-6.
Allison Burkhardt beat
Tamera Lobb, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3, Alena Marani topped
Caitlin Bedford, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5, and Kristi Noecker blanked
