Swimming Splits at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Lebanon Valley College split its swim meet at Messiah College Saturday, with the women winning 119-85 and the men falling 105-98.

It was the first-ever meeting between the Dutchmen and their new conference rivals. Messiah started its programs this season. It was the final dual meet of the season for both teams before MAC Championships in two weeks' time.

Senior Kevin Carney, swimming in the final dual of his career, won three events, capturing the 1,000-yard free (10:53.94), the 200 IM (2:10.44), and 100 back (57.83). Tony Shipkowski was the only other men's winner, in the 500 free (5:41.47).

The women won six events overall, including Lauren Horst in the 1,000-yard free (12:27.36) and Ally Birli in the 500 free (6:14.95) and 100-yard fly (1:07.49). Kelsey Sherman sprinted to the 50-yard free title in 26.93, and Lisa Niethamer touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.82.

The women's 200 free relay of Christina Schreiner, Horst, Sherman, and Niethamer also won in 1:51.52.
