Dutchmen Swimming Begin Season Against King’s

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley swimming teams were in action for the first meet of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Dutchmen hosted King's College at the Arnold Sports Center Pool for a dual match and the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Meet.
 
The women placed first in 10 of the 11 events to defeat the Monarchs for the third consecutive meeting by a score of 144-36. The men battled tough with only eight swimmers competing in a 144-48 defeat.
 
Inside the Results
  • The Dutchmen had three women's 200-meter medley relay teams to start off the meet, while King's just had one men's team. LVC's top women's team of Natalie Bourne, Marina Weidman, Noryan Mitchell, and Karly Kile had a great time of 2:22.47 to win by nearly 11 seconds.
  • Maya Sussman was the only women's swimmer in the 800-meter freestyle, making her collegiate debut with a time of 12:18.37. Ryan Kuffa won the men's heat with a time of 9:52.02 to qualify for the MAC Championships in the 1650 freestyle.
  • Owen Fastrich qualified for the conference championships in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:14.94 to finish second. Grace Strong finished second in the women's 200-meter freestyle, touching the wall in 2:48.72.
  • Jana Shoffner won the women's 50-meter freestyle in 32.41 while Roman Schelhorn was second in the men's race at 27.99 seconds.
  • Mitchell earned her second event win of the afternoon as she touched first in a thrilling 200-meter IM with a MAC qualifying time of 2:48.82. She won by 0.15 seconds, using a strong final lap after being second all race.
  • Colbey Brown and Nora Cuthie finished as the top two in the women's 100-meter butterfly in their first races. Brown touched the wall first at 1:21.10 while Cuthie finished in 1:28.47. Fastrich finished second in the men's race with his second MAC qualifying time of 1:08.64.
  • Shoffner won her second event with a time of 1:15.92 in the women's 100-meter freestyle.
  • Bourne and Kayla Wolfe had the top two finishes in the women's 100-meter backstroke. Bourne won in 1:21.89 while Wolfe touched in 1:22.99.
  • The Dutchmen swept the 400-meter freestyle races as Kile won the women's heat in 6:02.03 and Kuffa won his second event with another MAC qualifying time of 4:46.70. Mitchell finished second in the women's race at 6:29.94.
  • Weidman wrapped up the individual heats with a first-place swim in the 100-meter breaststroke. She qualified for MACs with a time of 1:25.14. Lily McNutt was second in 1:32.92.
  • The team of Shoffner, Bourne, McNutt, and Weidman touched first in the 200-meter freestyle to close out the meet with a time of 2:10.42. The men's squad of Fastrich, Caleb Sikalis, Kuffa, and Schelhorn finished second during the men's heat in 1:55.65.
Up Next
LVC will head out to Huntingdon next Saturday, Oct. 25, for a dual at Juniata College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. inside the Binder Natatorium.
