Dutchmen Upend First-Place Widener, 85-75

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley led wire-to-wire as it upended first-place Widener, 85-75, in a Commonwealth Conference game Wednesday night.

With the win, the Dutchmen (9-9, 2-4 CC) got a shot in the arm in their quest to get back into the playoff hunt. The Pride (14-5, 4-2 CC) slip into a first-place tie with Elizabethtown.

LVC was led by a career-high 20 points and eight assists from freshman Joe Meehan, and Kyle Enoch poured in 18 more. Grant Becker (14 points) and Dan Dunkelberger (12 points, eight rebounds) were also in double digits for LVC, which shot 52.8 percent from the floor and went 22-for-24 at the line.

Charles Jones, the league's leading scorer, paced Widener with 20 points and Matt Sosna had 14.

The Dutchmen set the tone early, with Dunkelberger going backdoor to Meehan for the night's first points before Dunkelberger inflicted a thunderous block on Jones on Widener's first possession. After Sosna's jumper, LVC hit a 14-3 run to take an early 11-point lead. LVC held the margin for most of the first half, taking a 37-30 edge into the break.

Widener chipped away at LVC's lead but could never get over the hump in the second half. After pulling within four on Jones' short-range jumper with 8:33 left, LVC put the lead back to nine with some free throws and Anthony Trautman's layup, and the lead never dipped below seven the rest of the way.

Foul shooting held the lead as LVC went 11-of-11 at the line in the final three minutes.

Lebanon Valley will visit Lycoming Saturday.
