WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College women's tennis team was dealt its first loss of the season Wednesday, falling 5-4 at Wilkes University.
Wilkes (2-0) won the match at 5-1 after winning two of three doubles points from the Dutchmen (4-1).
After
Sarah Grodzinski and
Shayna Heintzelman won a marathon 9-8 (9-7) decision at No. 1 doubles for LVC's first point, Wilkes responded with three quick singles wins at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5 to clinch the win.
The Dutchmen got singles wins from Grodzinski at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2,
Sammy Burkey at No. 4 by the same score, and
Sara Wagner at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4.
LVC will face a key Commonwealth Conference match on Saturday, visiting defending champion Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m.
