ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College men's team defeated Albright College 9-0 in its Commonwealth Conference finale at the blustery LVC Tennis Courts Friday afternoon.
With its win, Lebanon Valley (6-9, 3-3 CC) finished fifth in the Commonwealth Conference standings, one place behind the final Commonwealth playoff qualifier. It marks the first year since 2001 that the Flying Dutchmen will not compete in the MAC or Commonwealth Conference team playoffs.
Albright (0-6, 0-5) remained winless on the season.
Senior Erik Vargo, junior Zach Kaufman, sophomore Jared Zeigler, and junior Shawn Becker were all double winners for the Flying Dutchmen.
Vargo won at No. 1 singles to improve to 13-5 on the season. He also teamed up with Becker for a win at No. 2 doubles, as the pair pushed their season record to 12-7. Kaufman was a winner at No. 3 singles, and he paired with freshman Jonathan Gingrich for a win at No. 3 doubles.
Winning at No. 4 singles was Zeigler, who also prevailed at No. 1 doubles with senior Stu Hartman. Becker earned a triumph at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Matt Grodzinski added a win at No. 2 singles, and he is also 13-5 this year. Freshman Matt Hotchkiss came out on top at No. 6 singles.
Lebanon Valley returns to action on Sunday, when it visits the University of Scranton in a non-conference match starting at 1 p.m.
