ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Tennis team earned the second seed in this week's Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship and will have a rematch with third-seeded Misericordia University on Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals at the Shankroff Tennis Center. Top-seeded Stevens will face fourth-seeded Arcadia University in the other semifinal pairing in Bayonne, New Jersey.
The Dutchmen finished the regular season with an 11-8 record and 5-1 mark in conference play after defeating Misericordia on Sunday for the rights to host Wednesday's semifinal. LVC's lone conference defeat was to Stevens where the Dutchmen won the doubles point and was the only conference team to win a match against the Ducks in a 6-1 defeat. LVC got out to a strong start against the Cougars on Sunday in a 5-2 victory a year after dropping a pair of close matches to Misericordia in the regular season finale and the MAC Freedom Semifinals. The winners of each match will play in the Championship on Saturday at the site of the higher seed. Admission to all matches is free.
The Dutchmen are expected to play a similar lineup against the Cougars that they played on Sunday. LVC's strength this year in conference play has been getting off to a good start by winning the doubles point with a 15-3 record in doubles play. The Dutchmen won the doubles point in all six conference matches. The pairings of
Catherine Stone and
Erika Badner as well as
Katie Berra and
Megan Martin are both 4-0 in conference play. Berra and Stone have primarily played at number two while Martin and Berra have played in all three flights.
Abbey DeLisio and
Jenna Miner are 2-0 at number three doubles in conference matches including a win over the Cougars on Sunday.
Sarah Kramer and
Sarah McComas played number one doubles on Sunday and are 1-2 in conference matches this year.
LVC has gone 27-9 in singles play during conference play with six of the defeats coming in the close match against Stevens. McComas has been the number one singles player all year for the Dutchmen and is 7-14 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The junior is on a four-match winning streak and was the first court to finish in singles play on Sunday. Stone has played most of the season at number two, though sat out of the lineup for singles on Sunday. The sophomore is 11-8 overall and 4-1 in conference with a four-match winning streak and an 8-1 record in LVC's last 10 matches.
Erika Badner is 11-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play mostly playing at number three where she is 9-6 in dual matches. She played number two on Sunday and went three sets in a tough defeat.
Megan Martin is 7-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference matches going 6-3 in LVC's last 10 matches. The sophomore has primarily played number four but played at number three on Sunday with Stone out of the lineup where she dropped a close three-setter.
Katie Berra clinched the match victory for the Dutchmen on Sunday at number four and is an outstanding 10-3 this year including 3-0 in conference play. She is 5-2 at number four and 5-0 at number five with a nine-match winning streak.
Sarah Kramer has seen action in three matches this year and is 2-1 including a dominant victory on Sunday at number five singles over the Cougars on her Senior Day.
Laken Kelly has seen most of the action this season at number six singles going 8-2 in her 10 matches. She went 3-0 in conference play and is on a three-match winning streak.
Jenna Miner has also seen a lot of action on the back courts for the Dutchmen going 8-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The junior is on a five-match winning streak including a victory on Sunday.
