ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley Women's Basketball senior
Cristina Fernandez was named to the Third Team of the D3hoops.com All-Region 4 squad in a release by the organization on Tuesday.
This is the 24th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team. Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. There were 789 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to a number of SIDs, as well as D3hoops.com staff and contributors, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
Fernandez, the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, did it all for the Dutchmen, leading the squad to a MAC Freedom Regular Season Championship. As a guard, she led the conference, was fifth in the Region, and is 37th in the nation with 49 blocks. The senior had 12 games with at least three blocks. She also did an excellent job holding onto the ball with a 2.24 assist/turnover ratio that ranks 13th in the nation, and third in the region. Fernandez was a triple-double threat with 10.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game. She averaged 15 points per game in a season sweep of Arcadia including a 14-point, eight-rebound, five-assist, and three-block game on Senior Day to defeat the Knights 73-55 to earn the top seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament. Fernandez scored in double digits 19 times and had one double-double.
The senior earns her first career All-Region honor and becomes LVC's second third team selection in the past two years.
