Dutchmen Swimming has Strong Second Day at MAC Championships

YORK, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Swimming teams had one podium finish and two swimmers compete in the finals to highlight a strong second day at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Friday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York.

Marina Weidman started the second day of action by qualifying for the "C" Final in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:08.51. She beat her previous best time by two seconds. The first-year had an even faster time in the finals as she touched the wall sixth in the heat to finish 22nd with a time of 1:07.91.
 
Justin Kopp led five Dutchmen in the men's 100-butterfly with a season-best time of 55.63 seconds to qualify for the "C" Final. He beat his previous best time by four seconds. Kopp then finished fifth in the finals with a time of 55.77 seconds to finish 21st overall.
 
Brian Dym just missed qualifying and was the second alternate in 26th place with a season-best time of 58.81 seconds in trials. He beat his previous time by four seconds. Josh Varner also just missed qualifying as he touched the wall in a season-best 58.86 seconds to finish 27th. Varner topped his previous time by three seconds. Zack Fischer finished 32nd with a season-best time of 1:07.27 beating his previous time by two seconds. Roman Schelhorn swam a time of 1:12.16 to finish 33rd.

Rachel King finished 29th in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:15.60 while Karly Kile was 32nd in 2:28.48. King beat her previous season-best time by almost five seconds.

The women's 200-yard freestyle relay "A" team of Sierra Young, Noryan Mitchell, Weidman, and Jordyn Grossman reached the medal stand with an eighth-place finish in 1:43.35. The "B" team of King, Kile, Lilly McNutt, and Jana Shaffner touched the wall in 1:53.09. The men's 200-freestyle relay "A" team of Dym, Kopp, Tyler Singer, and Varner finished ninth with a time of 1:35.42. The "B" team of Joe Beidler, Fischer, Schelhorn, and Eddie McClain finished with a time of 1:45.75.

The women's 400-yard medley relay "A" team of Young, McNutt, Weidman, and Grossman just missed the podium with a ninth-place finish in 4:25.18. The "B" team of Natalie Bourne, King, Mitchell, and Kile touched the wall in 4:44.88. The men's "A" squad of Beidler, Varner, Kopp, and Dym finished 10th in 4:06.04. The "B" team of Mitchell Delano, Fischer, Jacob Herald, and Caleb Sikalis finished with a time of 4:45.73.

Both teams are ninth in the standings midway through the Championships. The women have 213 points while the men have 147. Stevens Institute of Technology leads both the men's and women's standings.

Day three will begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning with the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and 800 freestyle relay.
