Grossman Finishes on Podium to Highlight Day One of MAC Championships

YORK, Pa. – Lebanon Valley senior Jordyn Grossman finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle to highlight a strong start for the Dutchmen Swimming teams on Thursday's opening day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center in York.
 
First-Year Lilly McNutt started things off for the Dutchmen in the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 6:22.00 to finish 32nd. She beat her seed time by five seconds.
 
Marina Weidman qualified for the "C" Final in the 200-yard individual medal with a season-best time of 2:31.06 in the trials. The first-year then finished second in the finals with an even better time of 2:27.73. Weidman was fourth after three laps and had a strong freestyle stroke to finish second. Her time in the final gave her an 18th-place finish in her first MAC Championship event.
 
Grossman swam the fifth-best 50-yard freestyle time in trials touching the wall in a season-best 24.95 seconds to qualify for the "A" Final for the second consecutive year. The senior had a strong race in the final touching the wall in 25.11 seconds to finish on the podium in eighth.
 
Sierra Young qualified for the "C" Final in the 50-freestyle with a season-best time of 26.28 seconds. The senior finished second in the "C" Final with an even better time of 26.13 seconds to finish 18th overall.
 
Noryan Mitchell just missed qualifying for the finals with a season-best time of 27.04 seconds in the 50-freestyle to finish 28th.
 
Josh Varner qualified for the "C" Final in the 50-freestyle with a season-best time of 23.56 seconds in the trials. He came back and swam a little bit faster in the final with a time of 23.48 seconds to finish eighth in the heat and 24th overall.
 
Justin Kopp just missed qualifying for the finals in the 50-freestyle as one of the alternates with a season-best time of 23.78 seconds to finish 26th. Brian Dym and Tyler Singer also had season-best times in the trials. Dym touched the wall in 24.27 seconds to finish 29th while Singer was 30th in 24.28 seconds. Roman Schelhorn finished 32nd with a time of 24.71 seconds while Joe Beidler swam a season-best 25.17 seconds to finish 34th.
 
The Dutchmen finished the night with four relay teams in the 200-yard medley relay. The women's "A" team of Young, Rachel King, Weidman, and Grossman finished ninth with a time of 2:01.34. The "B" team of Natalie Bourne, McNutt, Mitchell, and Karly Kile had a time of 2:05.76. The men's "A" team of Dym, Varner, Kopp, and Singer finished 10th in 1:46.22. The "B" team of Beidler, Zack Fischer, Jacob Herald, and Schelhorn touched the wall in 2:00.37.
 
Day two of the Championships will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday with the 400-yard individual medley, the 100-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard freestyle trials.
