ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sorrentino Gymnasium will be busy on Saturday afternoon as there will be four basketball games played starting at 1 p.m. The Lebanon Valley men's basketball team will play a non-conference game, followed by the annual three-game high school boys' Rhoades Classic.
The Dutchmen will begin the afternoon with the final non-conference game of the year as the squad welcomes former Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth rival, Lycoming College to Annville. Last season, the Flying Dutchmen broke a five-game losing skid to the Warriors with an 88-78 victory in Sorrentino Gymnasium. Following the college game, the 15th annual Rhoades Classic will take the floor with three high school boys' games involving six local teams.
Admission for the Rhoades Classic is set at $5 per person for all three games and will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the lobby area outside Sorrentino Gymnasium. There will also be a silent auction during the event. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Rhoades Foundation.
The first game of the Rhoades Classic, which will begin shortly after the LVC game is completed, will feature Cedar Crest against Lower Dauphin. Hershey and Conestoga Valley will be the second game of the Classic, with Palmyra and Penn Manor finishing things off as the final game of the day.
The Rhoades Foundation is a charitable organization that awards academic scholarships to deserving students. The organization is named after the late Senator James J. Rhoades, who died in a car accident in 2008. Senator Rhoades was passionate about education and athletics. His son, Mike, was an All-American basketball player at Lebanon Valley College, graduating in 1995, and is currently the head coach at Penn State University.
