Dutchmen Earn Three Medals on Day One of Outdoor Track and Field Championships

CHESTER, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley outdoor track and field teams got off to a great start with three medals and six podium finishes on the first day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Widener University in Chester.
 
Trey Reynolds was the first medal winner of the day as the senior finished third to earn All-MAC Third Team honors in the hammer with a toss of 49.56 meters (162'7") on his third toss. His career best mark is third on the program's top 10 list and earned six points. Cody Shay also earned a podium finished fifth to score four points with a mark of 47.70 meters (156'6") on his sixth throw. His big career best mark moves him up to fourth from eighth in the program record books. Nick Guerieri finished 12th with a toss of 42.70 meters (140'1") on his third throw.
 
Lauren Assante had a podium finish for the women as she finished seventh to score two points with a career best throw of 42.62 meters (139'10") on her sixth attempt. Her mark moves her up to fourth from sixth on the program's op 10 list. Caroline Reed was 14th with a career best toss of 38.37 meters (125'11") on her third try. Meghan Bussey had a career best mark of 34.02 meters (111'7") on her third toss to finish 25th.
 
The Dutchmen finished second in both the men's and women's 4x800 meter relay to score a big eight points and earn All-MAC Second Team honors in the races. The men's squad of Sam Rothstein, Vinny Ferrizzi, Alec Di Cesare, and Elijah McKell had a time of 7:45.84. Rothstein had a split of 1:57.11 to begin the race. Ferrizzi split 2:01.16, Di CeSare had a split of 1:55.21 and then McKell closed with the second-fastest split of the field in 1:52.37. The women's team had Sierra Kapcsos, Autumn Garges, Coyla Bartholomew, and Lauren Bunke finish in 9:25.38. Kapcsos led off in 2:20.51. Garges had a split of 2:21.31, Bartholomew's split was 2:27.01, and Bunke closed in 2:16.56 which was the fastest split in the field.
 
Joe Chukoskie finished on the podium in the 10,000 meters as the sophomore scored three points with a sixth place finish in 32:08.55. Liam Allen was 24th in 35:06.89 while Dylan Lenhart was right behind him in 35:20.33. Joseph Pleban had a time of 37:02.59 to finish 34th. Aleah Hoffman ran a time of 42:55.94 to finish 13th for the women. Charlee Kurtz was 15th in a career best 42:59.61 while Caroline Borleis finished 17th in 45:59.77.
 
Alex Sabo is second midway through the decathlon with 3192 points. He started the day with a time of 11.38 seconds in the 100 meters to score 778 points. He then had a long jump mark of 6.18 meters to score 626 points. Next up was a career best throw of 12.35 meters (40'6.25") to score 628 points in the shot put. Sabo then jumped a career best 1.76 meters (5'9.25") in high jump to score 593 points. He finished the day with a time of 55.81 seconds in the 400 meters to score 567 points. Graison Michajluk is sixth with 3082 points. He started with a career best time of 12.01 seconds in the 100 meters to score 649 points. He then jumped a career best 5.92 meters to score 569 points in the long jump. Michajluk threw the shot put a career best 10.84 meters (35'6.75") to score 536 points. He had a height of 1.85 meters (6'0.75") in the high jump to score 670 points and then finished with a career best time of 53.56 seconds in the 400 meters to score 658 points.
 
Carolina Wegman is fifth after four events in the heptathlon with 1884 points. She started with a time of 20.37 seconds in the 100 hurdles to score 272 points. She then cleared a career best height of 1.52 meters (4'11.75") in the high jump to score 644 points. Wegman threw the shot put 8.28 meters (27'2") to score 417 points and then finished with a career best time of 29.05 seconds in the 200 meters to score 551 points.
 
The men's team is third after the first night with 21 points. Widener University leads with 26 points while DeSales University is second with 22 points. The women's team is fifth with 10 points. King's College scored 23 points in the hammer to lead the field. Misericordia University is second with 20 points while Widener is third with 19 points. Alvernia University sits fourth with 17 points.
 
The Championships will resume on Friday morning starting at 9 a.m. on the campus of Widener University.
