Caroline Reed Finishes Seventh in Shot Put at AARTFC Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Caroline Reed finished on the podium in the shot put on the first day of action for the Lebanon Valley indoor track and field teams on Friday at the AARTFC Championships in Rochester, N.Y. at the Golisano Training Center.
 
Reed scored two points with a big career best throw of 12.23 meters (40'1.50") on her second toss in the shot put to finish seventh in the field of 30. Her previous best throw was 11.81 meters (38'9") and she moved up to third from fourth in the program record book.
 
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Darrian Berkheimer, Alyssa Peiffer, Abbie Reed, and Mileyska Calderon had a season-best time of 4:06.15 to finish on the podium in eighth place to score one points. They were second in the second of four heats and have the fourth-fastest time in program history.
 
Zach Reed qualified for Saturday's final in the 60-meter hurdles. He finished second in the first of three heats with a time of 8.30 seconds which was sixth in the field of 23. Kadan Smith finished 14th overall with a time of 8.52 seconds as he was fifth in the heat. Daniel Murtha was seventh in the heat and 17th overall with a time of 8.58 seconds.
 
Matthew Santana finished 23rd in the 5000 meters with a season-best time of 15:22.98. The first-year was ninth in the first of two heats. He beat his previous best time by a second and is still third on the program's top 10 list. Ayden Stankus finished tied for 11th in the pole vault with a height of 4.46 meters (14'7.50"). The junior needed two tries to clear the opening height of 4.31 meters and then needed all three attempt to clear 4.46 meters.
 
Rachel Snavely and Emily Oriel finished at a height of 3.15 meters (10'4") in the pole vault. Snavely was tied for 15th after clearing her first attempt while Oriel was tied for 17th, needing two attempts to clear the height. Calderon finished 18th in the long jump with a mark of 5.08 meters (16'8") on her third jump.
 
The Regional Championship meet will conclude tomorrow with events starting at 10 a.m. in Rochester.
