Bartholomew and 4x400 Relay Team Wins MAC Titles

READING, Pa. – Coyla Bartholomew and the 4x400 meter relay team won Middle Atlantic Conference titles on the final day of the MAC Championships to lead the Lebanon Valley women's indoor track and field team to a third-place team finish at Alvernia University's Flynn Plex on Saturday.
 
Bartholomew ran a smart race in the 3000 meters and used a strong finish to win by three seconds after entering the final lap in third. Her time of 10:26.39 is a career-best and is seventh on the program's top 10 list. She earned All-MAC First Team honors and 10 big team points with the victory. The 4x400 relay team of Darrian Berkheimer, Alyssa Peiffer, Abbie Reed, and Mileyska Calderon won wire-to-wire in a dominating time of 4:06.93. Their time is an AARTFC Championship qualifier and fifth in program history. The quartet scored 10 points and earned First Team honors.
 
Lauren Bunke finished second in the mile to score eight points and earn Second Team honors with a career-best time of 5:06.14. Her time moves her up to third on the program's top 10 list from fourth. Izzy Zwally scored three points with a sixth-place finish in a career-best 5:39.65. Zwally was eighth going into the final lap and used a great kick to pass two runners. Berkheimer earned her second All-Conference honor of the day in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.67 to finish third, score six points, and earn Third Team honors. Peiffer just missed the podium with a 10th-place finish in 1:03.36.
 
The 4x800 meter relay team of Sierra Kapcsos, Emily Miller, Autumn Garges, and Bunke earned a bronze medal with a time of 9:50.60 to finish third, score six points, and earn Third Team honors. Their time is fifth in program history. Garges and Kapcsos also finished on the podium in the 800 meters. Garges was fifth with a career-best time of 2:21.49 to score four points. Kapcsos finished right behind her to score three points with a career-best time of 2:22.05. Both qualified for the AARTFC Championships while moving up to third and fourth on the program's top 10 list from fifth and sixth.
 
The Dutchmen had a pair of podium finishes in the 200 meters as Berkheimer was fourth in 26.58 seconds to score five points and Calderon ran a career best time of 26.84 seconds to finish seventh and score two points. Calderon's time moves her up to eighth from ninth in the program record book.
 
Carolina Wegman had a huge day as she finished tied for fifth in the high jump and sixth in the pentathlon to score 6.5 total points for the Dutchmen between the two events. In the pentathlon, she scored a career-high 2271 points while recording career-bests in all five events. She started the day with a time of 11.64 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to score 436 points. She then had a height of 1.54 meters (5'0.50") in the high jump to score 666 points. Wegman had a mark of 8.56 meters (28'1") in the shot put to score 436 points and then had a mark of 4.74 meters (15'6.75") in the long jump to score 490 points. She finished the event up with an 800-meter time of 3:14.41 to score 243 points. Wegman then competed in the high jump where she finished with a height of 1.52 meters (4'11.75"). Her pentathlon point total is fifth in the record books while her high jump height is ninth.
 
LVC had two podium finishes in the shot put as Caroline Reed was sixth and Alyssa Betz finished seventh. Reed scored three points with a mark of 11.27 meters (36'11.75") on her sixth and final throw. Betz scored two points with a throw of 10.70 meters (35'1.25") on her fourth toss. Lauren Assante finished 10th with a mark of 10.33 meters (33'10.75") on her third attempt. Greta Plechner was 17th with a toss of 9.64 meters (31'7.5") on her first throw while Meghan Bussey was 18th with a mark of 9.59 meters (31'5.75") on her third attempt. Chloe Grady was 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.79 meters (32'1.5") on her second jump.
 
Widener University won the team title for the second consecutive year with a score of 177 points. Stevens Institute of Technology was second with 129.5 points followed by the Dutchmen in third with 99.5 points. Misericordia University was fourth with 70 points and Messiah University rounded out the top five with 59 points.
 
LVC will compete at the AARTFC Championships next weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Golisano Training Center in Rochester, New York.
