ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College volleyball team was ranked fifth out of eight teams with the release of the 2023 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Preseason Poll on Friday by the conference office. Lebanon Valley is entering its first season competing in the MAC Freedom.
The Flying Dutchmen received 27 points after finishing the 2022 campaign with a 4-4 conference record, as a member of the MAC Commonwealth. The team's performance in conference play earned LVC an appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Championship playoffs.
Stevens Institute of Technology is projected to win its fourth consecutive conference championship in 2023, receiving 49 points and seven first-place votes in the poll. Arcadia University was ranked second with 40 points and a first-place vote, after finishing last season as the runner-up. DeSales University was then selected third in the conference with 35 points, while Misericordia University took the fourth slot with 33 points.
Lebanon Valley was picked to finish fifth in the MAC Freedom, earning 27 points in the rankings. The Dutchmen were followed by Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham (FDU-Florham), who was chosen sixth with 20 points. The poll was rounded out by Delaware Valley University being ranked seventh with 11 points, and King's College being expected to finish 10th, with nine points.
Lebanon Valley opens the season at 3 p.m. Sept 1, as the team will take on the United States Coast Guard Academy at Calvin Gooding '84 Arena in the Haverford Invitational. Later that day at 5 p.m., the team will also face off against Augsburg University. LVC begins its conference schedule at 7 p.m. Sept. 20, as the program will host Arcadia University at Sorrentino Gymnasium.
