Women’s Tennis Has Strong Start At MAC Individual Championships

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's tennis team had a great first day at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships hosted at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre advancing eight different flights to Sunday.
 
The third-seeded doubles team of Sarah Kramer and Eliana Shenk won both of their matches 8-2 at number two doubles to advance to the semifinals. In the first round they beat a team from King's and then in the quarterfinals they topped Messiah's duo. On Sunday they will face the second-seeded squad from Stevens. Meredith Haas and Madison Poladian had a bye in the first round at number three doubles as the second seed. They advanced to Sunday with an 8-2 victory over Stevenson's duo in the quarterfinals. On Sunday morning they will square up with a team from York in the semifinals.
 
At number four doubles Brianna Trace and Abbey DeLisio will play for a title on Sunday after defeating a team from Lycoming 8-2 in the quarterfinals and then a duo from Misericordia 8-5 in the semifinals. They will square up against Stevens in the final. Nicole Honrade and Livia Jackson dropped a hard-fought 8-4 decision to second-seeded Stevens at number one doubles.
 
The Dutchmen had five singles players advance to Sunday's semifinals starting with fourth-seeded Sarah Kramer in the second flight. She won her first round match 6-0, 6-0 over Jacquelyn Nesbeth of Stevenson and then defeated Addie Atkins of King's 7-6 (7-5), 6-1). She will face top-seeded Emily Brecker of Misericordia in the semifinals. Livia Jackson was seeded fourth at number three singles and won her first round match 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) over Kylie Walker of Messiah before cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 quarterfinal victory over Hailey D'Amato of King's. On Sunday she will face top-seeded Cassidy Greenman of Wilkes in the semifinals.
 
Meredith Haas had two great victories as the third seed in the fourth flight. She began the day with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lycoming's Haley Seebold and then defeated Karlee Yuscavage of Wilkes 6-1, 6-0. Haas will face second-seeded Emma Eguia of Stevens in the semifinals on Sunday morning. Second-seeded Eliana Shenk had a bye into the quarterfinals of the fifth flight and then advanced to Sunday with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kaitlyn O'Neil of Wilkes. She will face Morrissey Walsh of York in the semifinals.
 
Madison Poladian is the top seed at number six singles and had a bye into the quarterfinals where she defeated Angelia Tozzi of Messiah 6-4, 6-0. On Sunday she will face fourth-seeded Sydney Farmer from Wilkes. At number one singles, Nicole Honrade won her first round match 6-1, 6-4 over Zoe Klein of Wilkes. She then dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to second-seeded and 2022 MAC Commonwealth Player and Rookie of the Year Alexandra Pancu of Albright in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 10-3. Abbie Hoffer won her quarterfinal match at number seven singles 6-0, 6-1 over Erin Saunders of Stevenson before falling to Anusha Singh of Stevens 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
 
Action will conclude on Sunday with play starting at 9 a.m. in Wilkes-Barre.
