READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's
Jevon Griffin poured in a career-high 19 points, but Alvernia edged the Dutchmen 84-79 in a back-and-forth Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
LVC led 69-65 after a three-point basket by
Evin Timochenko with just over four minutes to play, but then went scoreless for nearly three minutes as Alvernia battled back to pull ahead 75-69. Alvernia's Malik Green, who led the Golden Wolves with 21 points, keyed the comeback with five points in that stretch.
Griffin was perfect on the night, shooting 6-for-6 from the floor including four three-point field goals and 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
Collin Jones added 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Timochenko added 14 points and seven boards.
In the opening half, LVC established a 24-15 advantage midway through the period using a balanced scoring attack sparked by Timochenko and capped by a three-point play from Griffin.
Then Alvernia flipped the table and raced out to a 40-31 lead with two minutes to go. A pair of consecutive three-pointers from Griffin and a layup by
AJ Catanzaro pulled the Dutchmen to within two at half.
LVC sits at 5-9 (2-5 MACC) and Alvernia is 8-4 (3-1 MACC).
