Box Score Neumann 5, Lebanon Valley 4
How It Happened
ASTON, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon, relinquishing a 4-0 lead to fall 5-4 to Neumann in overtime. The Dutchmen fall to 0-1-1 while the Knights now sit at 1-0-1.
The Dutchmen owned the first 30 minutes of the game leading to them growing a 4-0 lead, two in each of the first two periods. In the opening period, LVC opened the scoring at the 7:59 mark when
Sophie Trentini found the back of the net. Just under three minutes later, it was
Abby Radcliffe who beat the Neumann goaltender to double the advantage headed into the locker room, LVC leading 2-0.
Olivia Cindrich would continue to tack on goals for the Dutchmen just over four and a half minutes into the second period. Just after the midway point of the second frame,
Emma Dorf capitalized on a powerplay opportunity to balloon the Dutchmen lead to 4-0. However, from that point on it would be all Neumann as they scored three goals in the final 7:29 of the second period, all on the powerplay, to bring the Knights to within one with just 20 minutes in regulation.
In the third, Neumann would get the equalizing goal at the 13:29 mark off the stick of Mikaylee Henhawk. Neither team would be able to score a go-ahead goal for the remainder of the period despite dangerous scoring chances for both sides and the game would head to overtime. In the extra period, Neumann would be the beneficiary of a deflected shot that would bounce around before ending up in the back of the net. Claudia Trionfo would get credited with the game winner just 15 seconds into overtime.
