COLMAR, Pa. – Sky Campanile scored a goal for the third-seeded Lebanon Valley College women's ice hockey team in the first period, as the program dropped a hard-fought 4-1 contest to second-seeded Arcadia University in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Hatfield Ice Arena.
The Dutchmen (19-7-0) and the Knights (18-6-2) went back and forth defensively early in the game as each program put four shots on goal that were saved during the first 10:21. During this stretch, goaltender
Mia Frisoni made four saves for LVC while
Anna Dale,
Addi Alaoui,
Abby Mak, and
Leela Nemani each took a shot for the squad's offense. Lebanon Valley opened the scoring 11:27 into the first period, taking a 1-0 lead. The program struck first when Campanile sent the puck into the back of the net for a goal, courtesy of assists by
McKayla Romano and
Brysha Schmidt.
Arcadia responded with a goal by Chloe Makinson 12:48 into the first frame, tying the contest at 1-1. The Knights then began a power play in the 14th minute, and the Flying Dutchmen answered with a block by Romano and two saves by Frisoni during a successful penalty kill. LVC's defense also delivered three stops by Frisoni and a block each by Alaoui, Nemani, and Schmidt in the 2:24 after the end of the opposition's power play. Lebanon Valley later started a power play in the 18th minute, which led to
Tiffany Anderson and Nemani both putting a shot on target that was saved.
The Knights tallied five shots during the first 5:03 of the second period, and Frisoni made saves for the Dutchmen on each attempt. Arcadia then scored again at the 5:11 mark, taking a 2-1 advantage on a goal by Erika Roepke. Lebanon Valley later generated some offensive opportunities during a power play, as Romano and Schmidt each put a shot on goal that was saved within five seconds in the eighth minute. The Knights also started a power play in the 10th minute, and LVC came through with two saves by Frisoni and a block by Dale during another successful penalty kill.
The Flying Dutchmen kept sending the puck toward the net as the second period progressed, as Anderson, Dale,
Addison Taylert, and
Rhiannon Price each put a shot on target that was saved within 20 seconds in the 12th minute. Arcadia later began a power play in the 16th minute, and Lebanon Valley's defense posted a successful penalty kill with three more stops by Frisoni. The goaltender proceeded to register two more saves during the remainder of the frame, including a stop when LVC was on a power play.
The Dutchmen created a scoring chance early in the third period, as Alaoui took a shot that was saved at the 1:24 mark. Back on the defensive end, Frisoni kept working to limit the opposition with saves for Lebanon Valley at the 5:35, 6:02, and 6:49 marks. Mak also tallied a block for LVC at the 7:16 mark. The Knights then found the net 9:07 into the third frame, going up 3-1 on a goal by Rheya Zemlak. The Flying Dutchmen later started a power play in the 11th minute, which led to Romano putting two shots on target that were saved, while Anderson had an attempt saved.
Arcadia added a tally with a goal by Haylee Kos when each team had four skaters on the ice, advancing the score to 4-1 at the 12:32 mark. The Knights then began a power play in the 14th minute, and Lebanon Valley kept the opposition scoreless during this three-minute stretch with a block by Price and a save by Frisoni. The goaltender also made a save for the Dutchmen on the last shot of the game, which was taken with 49 seconds left. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the contest.
