BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's and women's track & field squads began day one action at the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships at Lehigh University on Friday.
Olivia Faloon broke the school record in the pole vault and the men's 4x200 relay team struck gold, while several other Flying Dutchmen turned in personal-best performances throughout the day.
Faloon reached a height of 3.25 meters in the pole vault, a new personal best and now the top height in Dutchmen history, to earn a silver medal and an All-MAC Second Team nod. Then, the men's 4x200 relay team, consisting of
Owen Buhr,
Matthew Weck,
Logan Grauer, and
Nathan Anzel earned first place with a time of 1:31.82 to win the gold medal and earn All-Conference First Team honors in the process. The group's time moved them into fifth on LVC's all-time list.
Anzel also ran in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash and finished in a career-best time of 7.19, now the third-best in LVC history. In the 60-meter hurdles, Grauer will race as the top seed in tomorrow's final after crossing the line at 8.69 today, his new career-low and still the third-best mark on the Dutchmen's all-time list. Buhr will join his teammate in the same race after qualifying today with a time of 8.93.
In the men's long jump,
Alexander Hamme picked up a point for the Dutchmen with a distance of 6.44 meters. Then, in the men's weight throw,
Garry Wrobleski earned the Dutchmen four points with a career-best throw of 14.17 meters, a new career-best and the seventh all-time in LVC history.
Steve Salerno earned three points for LVC, also in the weight throw, with a personal-best of 14.11 meters, LVC's eighth-best all-time distance.
Trent Donlan picked up a point for the Dutchmen with a throw of 13.50 meters.
In the men's heptathlon,
Logan Reever (1962 points) and
Dawsen Miller (1954) sit in fifth and sixth, respectively, after performing the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump today. The heptathlon finishes up tomorrow with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.
In the men's distance medley relay,
Jeffrey Campagna,
Luke Williams,
Daniel O'Toole, and
Noah Brady teamed up to earn a pair of points with a time of 10:51.42.
On the women's side,
Alyssa Diffenderfer will race in the final of the 60-meter dash tomorrow as the top seed after crossing the line at 8.00. Then, in the women's 5,000-meter run,
Kate Mowrey placed fifth and earned four points for the Dutchmen with a time of 18:36.63, shattering her previous career-best of 19:03.30. She now sits in third all-time on LVC's list.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Kirstyn McNamara achieved a personal-best time of 10.47 and still holds the eighth-best mark in school history. In the women's 4x200 relay, a team of Anna Burkart,
Jessica Olewine,
Becky Ford, and Diffenderfer earned four points for the Dutchmen with a mark of 1:49.51, the seventh-best in LVC history.
Olewine just barely missed out on medaling in the women's long jump and placed fourth with a distance of 5.31 meters, and in the women's weight throw,
McKenna Loughney turned in a personal-best mark of 14.05 meters and remains as the third-best in Dutchmen history.
Tabitha Luzier also had a career-best distance in the weight throw at 12.68 meters, the ninth-best on the Dutchmen's all-time list, while her teammate,
Jessica Katzenberger, also had a career-best throw of 12.28 meters, the 10th-best in school history.
In the women's distance medley relay,
Lauren Wick, Ford,
Julia Resele, and
Lauren Bunke scored four points with a time of 13:03.75.
The Flying Dutchmen wrap up their weekend at MAC Championships tomorrow afternoon. Doors open at 10 a.m. and track events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., while field events will get started at 11:30 a.m.
