Johnson Tabbed POTY; Four Dutchmen Named All-MAC

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley men's ice hockey's Brett Johnson earned Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Player of the Year and a total of four members earned all-conference recognition, as voted on by the league's coaches. Johnson was also named to the First Team, while Cole Hepler, Bryan Hovanec, and Mike Straub garnered Second Team honors.
 
Johnson earned back-to-back All MAC First Team honors and enjoyed one of the most impressive seasons in recent memory for LVC in 2018-19. He racked up a team-high 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points in just 26 games played. He averaged 1.54 points per game, good for eighth in the entire NCAA Division III. Johnson's 0.76 goals per game also ranked eighth in the nation. In the MAC, Johnson tied for first with 39 points and led the conference with his 19 goals. The forward was a +4 on the season, scored two short-handed goals and led the Dutchmen with 109 shots on goal.
 
Hepler landed on the Second Team for the second consecutive campaign after netting eight goals and added 17 assists. His 25 points was good for third on the team, while his 17 assists tied for second. Hepler tied for the best plus/minus on the team at +6, and he led the Dutchmen for the second straight season with three short-handed goals. The junior added 64 shots on goal, good for third on the team and was one of LVC's best from inside the faceoff circle.
 
Hovanec totaled 13 goals on the season to rank the senior second on the team. He added nine assists for 22 points, the fourth-highest on the Dutchmen. Hovanec scored four game-winning goals to lead his squad and added a shot percentage of .310. The senior scored a hat trick on two separate occasions, against Utica and at Chatham.
 
Straub anchored LVC's defense once again in 2018-19. The team captain was third on the team with 27 blocked shots and he scored a goal and added six assists for seven points in 22 games played.
 
Manhattanville's Marco Ferraro was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year, while Wilkes' Tyler Barrow garnered Rookie of the Year honors and Manhattanville's Arlen Marshall won Coach of the Year.
