GRANTHAM, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's women's tennis team picked up its most important and impressive victory of the season at Messiah on Sunday afternoon, April 23.
After suffering a sweep and falling behind 3-0 after doubles play, the Flying Dutchmen (12-4, 6-0) rallied in a big way during singles action and completed the gutsy comeback to knock off the defending MAC Commonwealth champs, remain undefeated in conference play, and take sole possession of first place in the league standings entering the final week of the regular season.
Like her team as a whole,
Marla Scacchitti climbed out of an early hole and battled to a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over the Falcons' Kelly Hopkins in the top match.
Rebecca Pierpont needed just two sets to defeat Carly Dove 6-4, 6-2 in the second solo outing, as did
Melanie Haas in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sydney Schandel in the No. 3 matchup.
After winning the first set and falling in the second,
Alyssa Potosnak came through in the deciding set to earn a 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Emily Wichert in the No. 4 showdown.
Elizabeth Drda's 7-5, 6-3 win over Meagan Scala in the fifth contest was LVC's fifth of the day. It wrapped up the biggest win of the spring to date for the Dutchmen.
Lebanon Valley looks to close out MAC Commonwealth play with an unblemished record when it wraps up regular-season play by hosting Stevenson at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, April 29.
