FREDERICK, Md. – Lebanon Valley's men's and women's swim teams closed out the 2016-17 regular season at Hood on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 28. On the women's side, the Blazers edged out the Flying Dutchmen 138-105, while the men fell 182-56.
Ian Lloyd continued to excel in the penultimate competition of his junior campaign, winning the 100-yard freestyle by more than a second over Hood's Lucas Mestas-Nunez with a time of 50.54. He earned a runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke by touching in 2:21.10 after opening his day with a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke thanks to a time of 56.09.
Chris Kurtz also picked up a runner-up finish in solo action when he posted a time of 56.47 in the 100-yard butterfly; a mark just .54 seconds off the winning time turned in by Hood's BJ Daisey.
Lloyd and Betz joined
Garrett Collins and
Bryce Betz for the 200-yard freestyle relay and came up just milliseconds shy of earning victory in the down-to-the-wire event as the group's combined effort of 1:33.20 was just .08 seconds off the top time of 1.33.12.
While none of the women picked earned solo victories, a number of swimmers earned runner-up status, including
Kyra Valent,
Madison Martin,
Lauren Skorupski,
Leslie Hiller,
Katie Gingrich,
Katie Frace, and
Julianna Currie.
Valent came home second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.93, while Martin was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke by barely more than a second before adding another second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Skorupski came home second in the 100-yard breaststroke, Hiller was the runner-up in a tight 50-yard freestyle race, and Gingrich touched second in the 100-yard free.
Frace took the runner-up spot in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Currie took on a distance event and finished second with a time of 6:06.07. Hiller's second top-two finish came in the 100-yard butterfly when kept pace with Hood's Anne Lessard and touched in 1:12.83. Martin closed out the women's singles events by securing her third runner-up finish of the day in the 200-yard IM.
With the regular season now in the books, the Dutchmen will use the next two weeks to prepare for the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships beginning on Feb. 9.
