BAYOMON, P.R. – Former Lebanon Valley men's basketball standout Andy Panko '99 inked a new professional contract with Puerto Rico's Vaqueros de Bayamón (English: "Bayamon Cowboys") on May 11. It's his second deal with a Puerto Rican squad after spending much of his professional career playing in Italy, Greece, Spain, and France.
The 39-year old veteran is coming off a strong season with France's SLUC Nancy Basket Pro during which he averaged 16 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. During his first season with Bayamon he posted 16.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 2.1 apg. In 2012, Panko was named the Spanish ACB League's Most Valuable Player, was named to the All-Spanish League Team, and was the Spanish ACB League's Scoring Champion.
He was voted the Eurobasket.com All-Spanish Liga Endesa Import Player of the Year, named to the All-Imports Team and named to the all-league second-team in his last season in the Spanish league.
Panko, a 17-year professional, is LVC's all-time leading scorer (2,515 points), was twice named the NCAA Division III consensus National Player of the Year (1997-98, 1998-99), and was named an NABC All-American in 1996-97, 1997-98, and 1998-99.
