WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's and women's swim teams took part in their first road meets of the season when they traveled to Wilkes on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5.
Swimming on short rest after hosting Cabrini for the program's dual-meet opener on Friday night, the women picked up their first victory of the young season by a 118-64 margin, while the men's squad fell to a game Colonels' team by a narrow 112-91 decision.
LVC's women started things off with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay when the foursome of
Madison Martin,
Lauren Skorupski,
Leslie Hiller, and
Julianna Currie combined to touch in 2:09.77, while
Marie Gorman was the only distance swimmer to take a crack at the 1,000-yard freestyle event, finishing in 13:11.86.
Katie Frace took the women's 200-yard freestyle over teammate
Hannah Barth in 2:32.67 before
Chris Kurtz earned the men's first win, a 200-yard free victory that saw him touch the wall in 1:54.81 – nearly 12 seconds quicker than the runner-up from Wilkes.
Kurtz added a second 200-yard victory, this time in the IM event, when he finished in 2:13.86.
D'Anna Sydow earned a win on the women's side in the 100-yard butterfly in the next race, as her time of 1:08.4 was more than six seconds faster than the second-place swimmer from Wilkes.
Ian Lloyd breezed to victory in the 100-yard fly, earning nine points for the Flying Dutchmen thanks to a time of 54.62, while Currie continued her strong debut with a win in the 100-yard free race, touching in 59.62.
Hiller (1:09.65) and Martin (1:10.62) pushed each other to finish 1-2 in the women's 100-yard backstroke before Lloyd won the same event for the men with a time of 58.64.
???????Sydow (6:16.90) and Gorman (6:29.78) were the only women to attack the 500-yard free event, as was
Garrett Collins (5:34.12) in the same race on the men's side. Skorupski was the last Dutchman to earn victory for the women, with her win coming in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Ari Gouskos did the same for the men, touching in 1:05.79 to take first place in the 100-yard breast.
After back-to-back meets on Friday and Saturday, Lebanon Valley will get a chance to rest before returning to the Fish Bowl at the Arnold Sports Center to host King's (Pa.) on Friday night, Nov. 11.
