GRANTHAM, Pa. -
Erica Wise's impressive rookie season continued as she broke another record when Lebanon Valley's swim teams took part in a rare quad-meet at Messiah on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 30. The meet was twice postponed due to last weekend's record snowfall, forcing the Flying Dutchmen into action against the hosts and Hood in team scoring, and Misericordia in singles competition.
The women split their match-ups, besting the Blazers 126-113 and falling to Messiah 199-51, while the men dropped both their outings despite some strong individual efforts.
Wise turned in a pair of strong solo performances, most impressively by earning a runner-up finish in an exciting 50-yard free event that saw her set the program record with a 25.08. It was the freshman's second runner-up effort after coming home second in the 100-yard backstroke earlier in the day.
Ian Lloyd was the men's top performer, winning the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:03.89. His victory came in a thrilling duel with Messiah's Nick Weider who finished second by less than half a second. The sophomore was also strong in the 100 fly, coming home second with a 55.64, just ahead of teammate
Brandon Seigel.
Jan Ikeda held off all comers in the 100-yard fly, touching in 59.37 to to earn the impressive victory over Tara Freeman, the runner-up from Messiah, by more than second. The senior captain added a third-place finish in the 200 fly, touching in little more than a second behind Misericordia's Dani Blass.
Women's relay teams bookended the meet with solid efforts as the foursome of
Alayna Kalinay,
Lauren Skorupski, Ikeda, and Wise came home third in the 200 medley, while Ikeda,
Leslie Hiller, Kalinay, and Wise earned another third-place finish in the 400 freestyle.
The men's group of Lloyd,
Clay Heebner, Seigel, and
Chris Kurtz earned a third-place finish of their own in the 400 free relay, as their time of 3:30.70 was less than 10 seconds off the winning pace of Misericordia's foursome. Kurtz added a solid third-place finish in the 400 IM thanks to his time of 4:36.44.
LVC's regular season is now concluded. The Dutchmen will next be in action at the MAC Championships in York, Pa. from Feb. 11-14.
