Lebanon Valley 58, Albright 55
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley withstood a second-half charge by Albright to win a critical Commonwealth Conference game, 58-55, and stay in the postseason hunt.
The Dutchmen (8-12, 6-7 CC) entered the weekend dueling with the Lions (11-10, 7-7 CC) for the fifth and final CC tournament berth, and LVC now sits a half-game behind Albright for that spot with five games left to play. Lebanon Valley swept the season series from Albright, which would prove crucial in any potential tiebreaking situations.
Kevin Agnew led the charge with a game-high 26 points, and
Joey Giangiobbe played a career-high 38 minutes to stuff the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, five assists, and six steals, including four drawn charges.
Lebanon Valley had a tough time shaking Albright as the Lions nearly erased a 10-point second half lead in the closing minute. LVC suffered through a 12:23 span without a field goal in the second half, but never lost the lead despite Albright cutting it to a one-point game. Kyle Jordan led Albright with 14 and Pedro Perez scored 12. Albright suffered from a poor day at the line, shooting just 8-for-17 to LVC's 12-for-17 as both teams shot about 41 percent from the floor.
LVC led virtually from the get-go, and went up as much as 10 in the first half after consecutive three-pointers by Agnew made it 24-14. Albright pulled it back and trailed 34-28 at halftime.
A jumper by
Kyler Burke at the 15:58 mark capped a 6-2 spurt to start the second half and push the Valley's lead back to 10, but that would be LVC's only field goal for more than 12 minutes until
Travis Conrad nailed a rainbow three-pointer from the corner at 3:55. However, Albright managed only three shots of their own in that span, and after pulling the game to 45-44 on Josh Marquez's layup with 4:12 to go, Conrad's trey and a pair of Agnew free throws pushed LVC back to a 50-46 lead.
Burke and Jordan traded buckets inside of two minutes, and LVC went 6-for-6 at the line in the final minute to seal the game, with Agnew and
Mike Fasano combining to ice things.
LVC will head to Hood on Monday in a make-up of their snowed-out contest from last Wednesday.
